Welsh Language

To promote the Welsh language and strengthen our Welsh identity, we celebrate a range of special Welsh events throughout the year, including Diwrnod Shwmae, Dydd Miwsig Cymru and our annual Elfed Eisteddfod. Pupils also have the opportunity to join the Urdd and take part in a variety of competitions.

We are pleased to take part in a series of workshops delivered by our local Urdd officer, Gethin Roberts, giving pupils further opportunities to engage with the Welsh language and culture.

During Welsh Wednesdays, pupils will revisit and play the games introduced in the workshops, listen to Welsh music and use Duolingo to support and enhance their Welsh language learning.

Each class also has a dedicated Welsh representative who promotes the use of Welsh across the school. They share a weekly “Word of the Week” and encourage pupils to use Welsh in their everyday conversations.
